Why are we raising money for the league? Doesn’t the registration cover it all?
The Hit-A-Thon raises a significant portion of the annual budget of the league. The Hit-A-Thon allows the league to improve each year. In addition to allowing us to provide top-notch equipment and fields, we conduct players’ and coaches’ clinics and continually improve our facilities.
How does the Hit-A-Thon work?
The Hit-A-Thon is very similar to a walk-a-thon. Each player solicits sponsors who pledge to make a tax-deductible donation CFLL. The amount of the pledge can be based on the total distance each player attains. Each player gets 5 hits, and we count the longest hit. The distance of that hit is the player’s score.
Should I provide a flat donation or a pledge?
Many sponsors find it easiest to provide a flat donation of $5, $10, $20 or any amount.
Other sponsors will pledge a certain amount per foot, usually between $.10 - $1. T-Ball players usually hit 60-125 feet. Major leaguers hit 200-220 feet. Much of the excitement of our contest centers on the unknown factor of how far a player will hit—and consequently how much they will raise.
How can people pay?
To make collecting payments as easy as possible, CFLL has developed a robust website (
99pledges.com) for secure payments. This limits the time you would need to go back and collect funds from supporters. If someone prefers to they can pay with cash or send in a check, payment can be made out to “CFLL” or “Cactus Foothills Little League”.
Do the players actually enjoy the Hit-A-Thon?
This will be a highlight of the baseball season. Kids enjoy hitting for distance, earning prizes, seeing who hits home runs and the break it provides during the season. This year, the event will span multiple nights: Wednesday, May 8th and Thursday, May 9th.
What is our goal?
The more players who participate, the better for CFLL and the more fun we all have! We are trying to raise $600 to $1,200 per team, which would equal more than $29,000. The teams who win the group prizes usually have every single player participating.
How do I get the word out to raise more money easily?
The pledge site has the ability to personalize your requests with pictures, videos, connections to Facebook, emails sent to your friends and family, etc. You can even see player, team, and CFLL progress through the fundraising goal thermometer.
How else can I help?
We will need volunteers for set up, and measuring and recording throughout the event. We will need pitchers and catchers and people to round up balls in the field. We will need adults to help with check in and announcers throughout the evening.
